NHS Dental Care
The NHS, or National Health Service, allows residents of the UK to receive government-funded medical and healthcare services without paying the full cost. It was founded in 1948 and still helps families and individuals get the professional care they need at an affordable rate.
We’re proud to be an NHS practice at West Earlham Dental Health Practice. This means children can be seen by our dentist free of charge, and it also means they can be enrolled into our Teeth For Life Programme.
The charge you pay depends on the treatment you need to keep your mouth, gums and teeth healthy. You will only ever be asked to pay one charge for each complete course treatment, even if you need to visit your dentist more than once to finish it- either Band 1, Band 2 or Band 3.
You may be eligible for help with all or part of the costs of your NHS dental treatment. To see if this applies to you, see the leaflet NHS dental services in England or visit the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/healthcosts or call 0300 300 1343
NHS Dental Charges
If you pay for NHS dental treatment, the cost depends on what treatment the dental healthcare professional thinks you need.
The dental professional should tell you how much it will cost before they start any treatment.
Dental treatments are grouped into 3 bands, and each band has a different cost.
If you need a mix of treatments from different bands, you’ll pay for the cost of the highest band of treatment you’re having.
If you need a mix of treatments from the same band, you’ll only pay the band charge once.
If you are not exempt from charges, you should pay one of the following charges for each course of treatment you receive:
Band 1 Treatment : £27.40
This band includes examination, diagnosis (including radiographs), advice on how to prevent future problems, scale and polish if clinically needed, moulds of your teeth, for example to see how your teeth bite together, minimal adjustments to false teeth (dentures) or orthodontic appliances, such as braces – for example, smoothing rough parts or tightening clasps and, preventative care (e.g. applications of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant or gum treatment including scaling).
Band 2 Treatment : £75.30
This band covers everything listed in band 1, plus any further treatment such as fillings (white fillings used when clinically necessary), root canal work or extractions (wisdom teeth when clinically necessary), sealant to fill small holes or grooves in your teeth, adding to your false teeth (dentures), such as adding a clasp or a tooth, or making extensive adjustments, such as relining and rebasing, a bite-raising appliance to correct your bite (does not include a laboratory-made appliance) and extensive management of gum disease.
Band 3 Treatment : £326.70
This band covers everything in bands 1 and 2, plus course of treatment including crowns, dentures, bridges, restoring damaged teeth with inlays and onlays, orthodontic treatment, such as braces, to improve the appearance, position and function of your teeth, other custom-made appliances, not including sports guards, and other laboratory work.
